Hand-tufted wool & acrylic yarn, carved I Driftwood-mounted I approx. 100 x 120cm
Suspended from a length of driftwood found after a storm at Praa Sands, this tufted wall hanging draws its palette and texture from the stony, seaweed-streaked edge of the beach. The right-hand side-where mossy rocks meet shifting tide lines-became the quiet focus of this piece.
Using a combination of long and short pile acrylic and wool, carved by hand, I aimed to echo the surface variations of stone, sand, and striated rock. The black lines suggest seaweed and tidal markings; the layered greens and greys evoke wet lichen and moss.
This is a tactile memory-stitched slowly, like collecting. It's about walking, looking closely, and bringing a piece of the coastline home.
