Pulling Down The Clouds

Acrylic on canvas | Part of the Cloudbusting series

Original artwork by Christine Walker

“Pulling Down The Clouds” is the largest and most emotive piece in the Cloudbusting series. Painted in expressive layers of acrylic, it captures a deeply personal view of Swanpool Lake — drawn not from a photograph, but from memory, feeling, and a lifelong connection to the land.

From the lake’s edge, your eye travels over shifting light, soft reflections, and toward the beach beyond. Big, heavy clouds stretch across the horizon, almost touchable — as if the atmosphere itself is bending down to meet you.

This is an impressionist landscape, but also a portrait of longing, grounding, and returning. The sky holds weight and movement, while the lake acts as a mirror for emotion and memory.

Every mark in this piece is intuitive, loose, and driven by feeling rather than precision — a conversation between what is remembered and what is felt.
